How High Triglycerides Lead To Hypertriglyceridemia

A certain type of fat found in your blood is called a triglyceride. Whatever your body does not need to use right after you eat, gets converted into these. These fats are stored in your fat cells and released periodically throughout the day to give you energy to keep you going between meals. On a normal, healthy person, their level is normal, however, if a person eats more calories than they burn, you may have a higher level called hypertriglyceridemia. An easy blood test is able to determine your level and what you can do to increase or decrease your levels to get back to normal.

Triglycerides are not to be mistaken with cholesterol. They are two entirely different things that work in very different ways. While these fat cells are designed to give you energy between meals throughout the day, cholesterol is made to build up cells and certain hormones in your body. Both these and cholesterol travel through your body without the risk of being dissolved into your blood. They both circulate through your body with the help of lipoprotein.

When there is an excess of triglycerides in your body, it can contribute to coronary artery disease in many people. Hypertriglyceridemia may also be related to other diseases such as diabetes mellitus. Your plasma measurements can detect a high level in both tri’s and cholesterol. These measurements should only be taken after you have had an overnight food and alcohol fast in order to get a proper reading.

It is extremely important to maintain a healthy level in your body of around 150 mg or less. If you are considered overweight, try cutting down your calories from all food sources including alcohol, fats, carbohydrates and proteins and try to get at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise in every day to maintain a healthy triglyceride level. Eating fish that are high in Omega 3 fatty acids instead of ingesting high saturated meats like hamburger is another way to lower your hypertriglyceridemia. These types of fish include mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines and salmon. Eating a diet full of fruits and vegetables is also a great way to lower your levels and maintain a healthy lifestyle
